You’ve been blogging for a little over a year, you have produced a library of fantastic content and are finally ready to start monetizing your blog but may be worried that adding Affiliate links will ruin the integrity of your content. (Also known as “I don’t want my site to be full of flashing, blinking, obnoxious ads!”)
Don’t panic! In this post, we will put those worries to rest with examples of subtle ways to include Affiliate links into your content.
Tools To Use
So let’s talk about different ways you can have links on your blog using ShareASale, yet won’t crowd a page or dissuade your readers from viewing a page.
1. Make-A-Page Tool: This tool has been recently overhauled for our Affiliates to make it more user-friendly. Using keywords, you can “make a page” of relevant and neatly organized products. You can select from two different display options. The Page View is a table of these products while the Gallery View is designed to fit on your blog and allows visitors to scroll through products in a visual way.
2. Product Showcase Tool: Product Showcases enable you to quickly highlight specific sets of retailers products based on a category or keyword. These showcases on your blog will automatically keep themselves up to date based on the keyword or category you select, so you do not have to manually update this!
3. Text Links: The simplest way to add an Affiliate link is by text link. The reader is not bombarded with an ad but understands that if they want to learn more, it’s just a click away. Personally, I’ve always been a fan of text links in a list format, yet you may use them as you see fit.
4. Banner Links: There is nothing wrong with a simple, relevant banner in the middle of your post. Don’t forget to acknowledge the banner is there. Otherwise, it looks like you just plopped it down in the middle of your content with little thought to your readers.
5. Create A Custom Link Tool: Using a Specific merchant, you can create a custom link to a particular page on their site; you can also use this tool to create a custom link with your specific affiliate tracking string built in as well for your internal statistics.
6. Coupons & Deals: Who doesn’t love a good coupon or deal? It’s a great resource for your readers and typically high converting as long as you don’t fill your post with an overwhelming number of deals (less than 4).
Below, I’ve written a sample blog post using the different strategies from this list that allow the content to maintain its integrity and entertain readers while also providing the value of suggestions.
Traveling to Chicago this Summer? 3 Great Tips!
Chicago in the summertime is just amazing! The weather is usually perfect, there are about a zillion things to do, and the city really shows why it is such a great place to live and visit. Rain or shine, the summer can be a great time to visit Chicago, between the many museums, trendy restaurants, great baseball games, and local festivals!
Planning your trip should be relatively easy, but there are a few things you should be aware of as you are planning. As a Chicagoan, I’ve put together a list of three great tips you should know if visiting our city this summer!
1. Pack Appropriately
This should be somewhat obvious, but nevertheless, worth repeating. You will need a pair of GOOD walking shoes, we are a walking city, and no one wants to be uncomfortable! A proper light jacket, hat, and sunglasses! If you are going out to one of the clubs or a fancy restaurant, don’t forget that dress and suit! You’ll thank me later when you see how stylish our citizens can be.
Using the Make A Page Tool, you can create a small gallery of products for customers to go through and choose from.
You can also use the Product Showcase Tool to make a small gallery of a specific type of products as well.
2. Know Your Local Craft Beer!
There are over 25 breweries in the city of Chicago. Head to bars with a great selection of beers on tap. In terms of breweries, you can head to Revolution, Half Acre, Rock Bottom or Goose Island. For a great beer bar, head to The Publican, Delilah’s, Local Option, Sheffield’s and more for a great on-tap selection.
3. Buy Attraction Tickets in Advance!
Attractions can be very busy in Chicago in the summer, so it’s important to buy tickets to shows and attractions in advance. It can be very expensive to buy last minute, but do you really want to worry about it when you arrive? I would recommend the following sites to look for tickets and reservations:
Saving Your Memories!
Be sure to take a lot of photos during your weekend in Chicago. One of my favorite things to do (post-vacation) is to make a photo book of all the fun pictures.
Not only does it make a nice coffee table book, but it’s great to give as a gift for anyone else who went on the trip with you!
Blurb has a great selection of photo books and always has great deals and coupons as well!

April 14, 2016 at 10:40 amI am always worried that TOO many affiliate links will also hurt your credibility with the Big G. I am not sure if that is true or not but I am always hearing that from other marketers. Can anyone confirm or deny if that might be the case?

April 25, 2016 at 11:48 amNice blog post for rookie like me. Only wish I could have clicked through to see what pages these went to, and also wasn’t sure about the column of sunglasses – can I click on single pair of glasses to get more info (or page with lots of sunglasses)? and can I wrap that box with my copy as stand-alone would work for me>
