Building a strong keyword list is a simple way to boost your program’s visibility. Upon signing up as a Merchant, you are asked to enter keywords that describe your program. We encourage you to include as many as you can while staying under the 255 character limit.
When an Affiliate is looking for Merchants to join on ShareASale, they can use a keyword search function; this is why the more keywords you have, the more opportunities your program has of showing up in these searches. Be sure that each keyword accurately describes your program and product assortment because our search results favor merchants whose information matches best.
When making keywords, think of three types to use (using the example of a toy store):
- 1-word keywords: Unspecific, general search terms. In our example, we would use ‘toy’, ‘toys’, ‘games’, ‘kids’, ‘fun’ and more.
- 2-3 word keywords: Use this for more specific keywords, such as ‘toy store’, ‘kids games’, ‘handheld video games’, ‘stuffed animals’, ‘board games’, ‘action figures’, ‘Barbie and friends’ and more.
- 4+ word keywords: Short phrases, not usually used, only for a very specific item. Example “Sony Playstation 4 Holiday Bundle” or “Bubble Guppies Bathtime Fun Playset.”
Make sure you use keywords to their full potential and experiment! You can always add and update through the My Account> Edit Settings page. If you feel your traffic is not at the level you think it should be, add more keywords and see if it picks up. A strong keyword list is another way you can add positive traction to your Merchant program!
