Crafting the Perfect Recruitment Email
One of the biggest missteps that you can make as a Merchant is sending an ineffective Affiliate recruitment email. Crafting the perfect pitch can make or break a potentially fruitful partnership so it is worth taking the time to research proper tactics. Study these four key points so you can be sure to make a good first impression and maximize the chance of a blogger signing up with your program.
1. Get Personal
Why should this blogger want to be part of your program? How is your brand or product assortment relevant to their audience? What differentiates your program from a competitor’s? Rather than expect Affiliates to figure this out on their own, provide the answer upfront. Highlight a feature of their blog that answers the questions above to show that you have invested time and energy into researching their content. Personalized emails can go much farther than a generic, “Hello, we like your blog, and we’d like you to be a part of our program.”
2. Apply the KISS method
You’ve heard it before: Keep It Simple, Stupid. While you may want to include self-promoting information such as recent awards or press, unless it directly relates to their content, it is best to remain self-effacing and focus your message on creating a great partnership together. The goal of this email is to spark interest so encourage the affiliate to reach out directly to speak further. End the email with a phone number or email address and request a time to speak in person.
3. Offer Incentives for quick action
The end goal is to make them want to join your program, so think of inventive ways to get them on board. Offer a bonus or a custom commission rate if they sign up within a certain timeframe. These exclusive offers will help your proposition stand out from the crowd. A blogger with 100,000 subscribers can be a very lucrative partnership, so don’t be afraid to up the ante at the very beginning to get them on board.
4. Don’t forget…
Always make sure your spelling and grammar are correct. While the spell check feature within Microsoft Word and other word processors is excellent, the grammar tool Grammarly is another helpful resource that provides a more robust (and free!) service.
These emails will take some time to perfect, and it should be a constant testing process. You may hear back from a blogger right away, and you may not hear back at all. It’s important to continuously refine your point of contact email to maintain a consistent recruitment effort, and gradually build your Affiliate Program over time. As the old saying goes “Practice Makes Perfect”, and soon you should see a higher number of bloggers responding and looking forward to joining your program.
