How to View a Pipe-Delimited Text File in Excel

Step 1: This is where we start – copy and paste the file into Excel, you can do this by opening the file in Notepad and just copying the whole thing.

Step 2: Highlight column A – this is where all the data is.

Step 3: From the Data Menu – choose “Text to Columns”

Step 4: In the box that comes up, choose “Delimited”

Step 5: Indicate that you are going to then use the pipe symbol “|”

This is the pipe symbol on your keyboard.

Step 6: You’re basically done – just hit “Finish”
