#1 Websites with ~ in them.
My own personal page had one… I think I was:
http://ix.netcom.com/~idontremember
Sadly, that goes nowhere now. I’m sure it looked just as cool as this ~ website.
Why tilde (~) should not be used in Web addresses (URLs)Check out this site detailing why you should never put a ~ in a web address…. ironically, this site indeed features a tilde!!! ~~~~

July 10, 2013 at 2:23 pmOh man. So much goodness here. Rainbow horizontals. Yes.
Brian Littleton says
July 10, 2013 at 3:43 pmThe “horizontal” in general has fallen out of favour… and the rainbow was definitely the best kind. One could never just have “1” rainbow horizontal…they traveled in packs.

July 11, 2013 at 5:23 amMy first site was GeoCities. It taught me to learn html. Ahh, yes, the wonders of a dial-up connection. I wonder if it will let me upload this huge 55kb graphic..

July 11, 2013 at 11:46 pmYES! I love the dial up sound. Those were the good old days when we would use our free hours on AOL cds to go online and into chat rooms. Good times.

July 12, 2013 at 10:21 amI know both Joel and my GeoCities pages still exist in a fashion on Archive.org. We were “neighbors” in Paris. The menus (being separate html pages) are archived separately from the actual pages, but the content is still there.
One of the earliest sites that still makes me chuckle is The Really Big Button That Doesn’t Do Anything.

August 11, 2015 at 6:21 amOur web site is still just about as I made it in the 90s. But we had one on Geocities and a few other free web site places. Always loved the cool little animated gifs and plain web sites, Low-res and lightweight enough for fast viewing on dialup. Cool beans! If you miss the old Netscape Navigator or Communicator, the closest thing now is called Sea Monkey. Based on Firefox code but looks and feels a lot like Netscape 4.8 or so. Funny, but I spend a lot of time at Archive.org looking through copies of old web sites. :)
