Analytics is the discovery and communication of meaningful patterns in data.
Whether you are a “n00b” or “seasoned veteran” in the Internet Marketing world, a good set of analytics is a MUST!
Without them you are like Michael Jordan without a basketball or Wayne Gretzky with a hockey stick. #NotGood
Why are analytics so important to an Internet Marketer?
Web analytics allow marketers to collect session-level information about interactions on their website. Those interactions provide the web analytics information systems with the information to track the referrer, search keywords, IP address, and activities of the visitor. With this information, a marketer can improve their marketing campaigns, site creative, content, and information architecture.
HERE ARE 4 OF MY FAVORITE NUMBERS TO LOOK AT DAILY!
1. Bounce Rate:
A bounce occurs when a web site visitor only views a single page on a website or in other words, the visitor leaves a site without visiting any other pages before a specified session-timeout occurs.
This helps you determine if the visitor enjoyed your content and if you made it easy for them to find related posts/ topics on your site.
Think of it like a golf score… The lower the bounce rate, the better!
2. Traffic Sources
This is a great way to see your different type of marketing efforts and which are converting visitors to your site the best.
3. Unique Visitors
This is a “feel good” metric in my opinion. Unique visitors are new to your website that day. The larger the number the bigger the smile!
4. Visits By Browser
This may not seem like the most important set of numbers to most, but it actually is pretty important.
You could have really bad numbers from certain browser due to something as simple as your site compatibility with that browser. It may not be displaying correctly or your SEO tags are not displaying in a certain browser.
A very common mistake is not checking the compatibility over all the major web browsers. It’s never too late!
This is just a few of the numbers I enjoy looking at on a daily basis.
What are some of yours?
