Now, on to today’s celebration. It’s National Chocolate Chip day folks! Do you know how the chocolate chip cookie came to be? It’s a rather interesting story actually. So pull up a chair and I will tell you.
The Toll House Cookie, one of the most famous inventions ever, was an accident. –SocialStudiesforKids.com
A nice women by the name of Ruth Graves Wakefield owned a travel lodge named the Toll House Inn, outside of Whitman, Massachusetts. As an innkeeper, Ruth enjoyed baking home made cookies for her guests. According to Nestle’, the story goes that one day Ruth ran out of baker’s chocolate in the middle of making a batch of Butter Drop Do cookies. So, she finely chopped a bar of Nestle’s semi-sweet chocolate. To her surprise, the chocolate did not melt into the dough but rather held their shape. She served this batch to the guests and the chocolate chip cookie was an instant (accidental) success! With a new cookie born, Ruth continued baking her new creation and local newspapers ran her recipe causing sales of the semi-sweet bar to sky rocket. Eventually Nestle’ and Ms. Wakefield worked out a deal that Nestle’ would print her recipe on every wrapper of the semi-sweet bar and Ruth would receive a lifetime supply of the chocolate. The end.
So grab a chocolate chip cookie & a glass of milk and help us congratulate today’s Spring Fling winners! ShareASale Merchant Launch Manager, Chris Rueckert will be doing us the honor today of pulling our lucky winners.
