What is the most commonly asked question at ShareASale?

March 1, 2013 by ShareASale Author 7 Comments

Happy March, everyone!  The month of #TheInterface has come to a close and we are moving on to a new month of daily posts.  March is the month of Real Life Examples and we’re calling it #RealLife!

Here on the support side of ShareASale we are asked hundreds of questions every day.

“What size banners should I use?”

“What is a datafeed?”

“Can my friends sign up too?”

To kick off our month of real life examples we wanted to address THE #1 most commonly asked question across both account types.  So what is it?!

(drumroll, please!)

The most commonly asked questions is:

“How do I reset my password?”

ShareASale Home Page

Everyone is familiar with the image above.  It is the ShareASale home page!

Our login links for both Merchants and Affiliates are in the upper right hand corner.  These pages are also where you can go to reset your password!

I am going to walk through the steps to properly reset your password using the Affiliate Password Reset tool.  The Merchant Password Reset process is identical to the Affiliate process (just obviously from the Merchant Login page instead).

If you need to reset your password, visit the proper log in page for your account type and look for the reset link under the Login button.  It says, “Lost your password? Click here”  and looks like this:

Affiliate Login Page

Once you click on that reset link you will be brought to the page where you can request a reset key.

Here is what that will look like:

Password Reset Page

You will need to enter you username and your account email address here.  The username and email address must match your account information for this to work properly.

Commonly, people will enter a gmail, yahoo, or hotmail email address forgetting that they signed up with an email address linked to their domain name.  Be sure that the combination you are using here matches your account information.

Once you enter the information, you will hit the “Password Reset” button.

As soon as you do this, our system will send the email address you have entered a reset key.

You will also notice that the page changes immediately and is now asking you for a reset key and a new password.  Do not close this window or you will have to start over(this is a common mistake).

Keep this widow open and check your email for the reset key we have sent you.

Here is what the page looks like:

Reset Key Screen

The reset key you receive to your email will be a bunch of jumbled up characters and will look something like this:

Reset Key Example

Copy and paste this key into the Reset Key box and enter in the new password you’d like to use.

Once this is complete, hit the Reset Key button and you’re done!

Password Reset Success!

I hope this has brought some clarity to our reset password process!

March is the month of Real Life Examples!  Stay tuned for a new post every day on how Affiliates, Merchants, and Agencies are using ShareASale everyday!

    Emilee,

This blog post made me smile this morning! I thought the #1 question was going to be something mind blowing, but I must admit that I had to reset another password on another site, and it was quite cumbersome! LOL I am looking forward to your #RealLife future posts for March! Have a fabulous weekend!

    Just a note…

If the password-reset key *needs* to be entered into that same page directly after requesting it, then the email with that reset key needs to go out *immediately*.

I requested a reset yesterday. The email didn’t show up over the next 10-15 minutes, and I had a dozen other things to do, so I closed the browser, figuring I’d come back and pick it up later after the email arrived — which I’ve been able to do at just about every other website that’s ever sent me a password-reset email. But this morning I see the email, and it has a key, but no link, and I don’t see a way to navigate back to the key-entry page. It was only by searching “shareasale reset key” on Google that I found this page and the “Do not close this window or you will have to start over” admonition, and was surprised to find out that all this is intentional.

Just pointing all that out, since the result is not a good user experience for the affiliate. Maybe not so bad if the email went out immediately, but… at least this time, it didn’t.

P.S. What the hell? I’ve been trying to provide you actual feedback, and my comment submission is consistently blocked with a message that my comment “seems a bit spammy, please go back and try to say something useful”. What? Really? (It took quite awhile to tweak-and-resubmit this to get it accepted by your filter.) Your automatic comment-spam filter is not only inaccurate, but rude. I think I’m done now…

Thanks Tom – and sorry for the trouble with the spam filter especially, it is a WordPress plug-in so I’d have to really look at why yours was being filtered. I know it is annoying, just not sure there is anything I can do about it in the short term for you.

The password-reset email should go out immediately – it sounds like yours did not but if you do have that happen the best thing to do is probably just to wait a short time and tray again. I’m sorry for the bad experience on that, but if you do a reset email you should see that right away 99% of the time.

Same issue as Tom Kiefer. It takes VERY long time (sorry for using caps) for the reset key to come through. My reset key didn’t arrive in my inbox until 24 hours later!

Avril – it should come within minutes, I’m sorry you are experiencing trouble with this I’ll do some research and see if anything is wrong with these emails and causing delay.
