Here are some fun leap year facts to help fuel your posts:
- There are 366 days in a leap year because it takes slightly longer, an extra 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 46 seconds, to complete an orbit around the sun.
- Babies born on February 29th only have an official birthdays every 4 years! The chance of being a “leaper” is one in 1,461, and there are only five million leap day babies around the world.
- According to old Irish legend, on a leap day, women are permitted to propose to men – Here’s your chance ladies!
- Some pretty monumental events in history have also occurred during leap years. In 1752 Benjamin Franklin proved that lightning is, in fact, electricity, in 1848 gold was discovered in California, and in 1912 the Titanic sank. Who knows what is yet to happen this leap year!
Take advantage of this extra day, after all you will have to wait until 2020 for another leap year to come around!
