Would you believe it? It was a balmy 80 degrees in the Windy City today; which, after what seems like 8 months of winter, is enough to make folks around here rejoice! Beautiful weather like this certainly seems very fitting to celebrate the official kick-off to spring & summer – May Day! I also like to call this the “I’m officially packing away my parka day”.
May Day has a long history as one of the world’s more notable holidays. Festivals for May Day were prominent in England during the Middle Ages with celebration and a “competition” as to which town could produce the tallest Maypole. In tradition, this day was celebrated by dancing and singing around a Maypole, tied with colorful streamers or ribbons. Although this tradition is not very prominent in the United States, many towns in Great Britain have reformed this into festivals or a day of merriment for kids (and who doesn’t love some good merriment for kids?).
Medieval and Modern Europe rejoiced in May Day as the celebration of the return of Spring.
ShareASale Marketing Communications Manager, Nate Beal, will be bringing a little May Day merriment to our lucky Spring Fling winners below! Congrats to our week five winners – your May Day box will be arriving shortly with some fresh spring greens inside (I’m talking about a hard cash here people). Thank you for your participation – we’ll see you next week!
